Engineering business grows Welsh manufacturing site

UK-based global engineering and technology company Renishaw has successfully completed the initial phase of an expansion plan for its manufacturing facility in Miskin, South Wales. The development represents a further £70 million investment in the nation’s manufacturing sector and is designed to increase the company’s capacity to meet growing demand for the technologies it produces.

First announced in 2022, the project is part of an investment programme that will eventually double the size of the site and establish it as one of the UK’s largest advanced manufacturing facilities.

To date, Renishaw has invested approximately £150 million in the site, which is located west of Cardiff. These funds have covered its acquisition, new construction, the refurbishment of existing buildings and the installation of specialised advanced manufacturing equipment.

The Miskin facility operates 134 computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools that produce about one million parts each month. Other equipment includes three assembly lines dedicated to printed circuit boards (PCBs), automated warehousing and robotic assembly systems.

UK-based component suppliers support manufacturers’ engineering and maintenance teams. By supplying dependable parts, they keep operations well equipped with reliable replacements when required. Die springs are common components used in both standard and robotic assembly lines. They are frequently used in automated equipment, machine fixtures and specialised tooling, particularly where high-force compression is required within compact spaces.

The completion of phase one of the programme has increased the facility’s usable space to 57,350 square metres. The recent expansion coincides with the 15th anniversary of Renishaw’s original purchase of the land on which the site stands.
