UK firms to answer supply chain challenges with domestic suppliers

According to a recent report from business advisory firm BDO, supply chain disruption remains one of the biggest risks that mid-sized businesses in the UK face. 

The study found that close to half (46 per cent) of companies surveyed included supply chain pressures in their most significant obstacles to manage in the next six months, alongside other issues like rising energy and fuel costs.

Researchers noted that the pressure is still felt most acutely in industries with higher operating costs and more complex supply chains like construction and manufacturing. 
Expert component suppliers in the UK help anchor resilience in the domestic supply chain in multiple ways. They shorten transit loops to mitigate geopolitical exposure and deliver localised technical expertise. 

As the UK manufacturing sector navigates challenges such as tighter import quotas and trade frictions, domestic component suppliers can help businesses reduce their reliance on vulnerable long-haul global logistics.

UK component specialists offer practical engineering and application advice, empowering original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to revalidate or substitute critical parts before shortages negatively affect production. They can also supply bespoke components such as custom made springs, clamps and washers.

A previous study undertaken by the researchers at BDO found that many domestic enterprises are already working to shorten their supply chains. Almost a third (30 per cent) of firms surveyed stated they were prioritising suppliers based in the UK. A similar percentage is bringing manufacturing operations closer to home by using nearshoring and onshoring strategies that can effectively reduce exposure to disruptions in the supply chain.
